The World Cinema festival brought new screenings of short films, documentaries and animations from around the world and panel talks from top industry professionals to Barking’s Broadway theatre.

Four media students from Barking and Dagenham College were on work experience helping with screen timings and discussion panels.

“I recognised actors, directors and film-makers from TV shows and movies,” 19-year-old Kyle Hazel from Stratford said. “They spoke about their experience in the film industry, which was inspiring the young audience to follow their passion.”

The festival included a family day with films for children and talks for parents to learn about television and film.

Budding movie-makers rubbed shoulders with film personalities like Killing Eve director Stella Corradi, actor David Avery, who starred in Gangs of London, and BBC commissioning editor Emma Lawson.

Festival organisers said the volunteers took “a wealth of knowledge” back to college for their future creative careers.
