One person has been taken to hospital after a crash involving an overturned lorry in Romford.

Met Police officers were called at around 11.30am today (July 3) to reports of a lorry overturned in Crow Lane, near the junction with Old Church Road, Rush Green.

London Ambulance Service also attended the scene and one patient was taken to hospital after being treated by medics on site. A second person reportedly declined any further treatment.

The road continues to be cordoned off by the police as a video clip on social media showed workers clearing the contents from the lorry that littered the street.

The AA has reported that a detour for buses remains in place and about ten routes have been affected.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are still ongoing.

London Fire Brigade also attened the scene and firefighters reportedly removed a man from the cab of the vehicle. They also contained battery acid which had spilled on to the road and made the scene safe.

The lorry is branded with the name Crow Metals, whose scrap metal facility in Romford was closed down by the Environment Agency in September 2021 over “risk to human health”.

It was since allowed to reopen.
