Romford boss Dan Spinks said he wants to ‘ride the wave’ after making club history – on his birthday.

A 2-0 win at Essex Senior League rivals Hullbridge Sports last weekend made it five in a row in all competitions – something never previously achieved by Boro at the start of a season.

And as they prepared to face landlords Barking in midweek, Spinks said: “We’re going to keep going, we’re going to ride the wave while we’re on it.

“We’re enjoying it, the boys are enjoying it, everyone is buying into it and we’re just taking each game as it comes at the moment.

“One half at a time and we’ll knock them off like that and see where we end up.

“A couple of injuries, at half-time we had to bring two of our bigger players off, but the boys that have come in, excellent second half. The subs that have come on, excellent.

“It’s a squad game, to win this league or be up there in this league you need a full squad.

“Everyone of the boys bought into it today which I’m really pleased with.”

Boro took the lead just past the half-hour mark when Jordan Sarfo’s cross was backheeled into the net by Jayden Silcott-Brown.

But Hassan Nalbant and Kris Newby picked up injuries before the break which saw the replaced by Bruno Gomes and Jacob Wiggins respectively.

Charlie Morris had an effort ruled out for offside in the second half, but Boro made sure in the sixth minute of injury time when Seedorf Mendes sent Sonny Shilling clear and he set up Gomes for a tap-in.

Boro turn their attention to the FA Cup on Saturday and a preliminary round home tie against Welwyn Garden City.

And Spinks is looking to maintain the feel-good factor, adding: “We’re going in on a high, we’ll take that as it comes.

“Bit of a free one I would say for me as I go in as an underdog. But we’ll enjoy that game.

“We’ll get through Wednesday, which will be a bit tougher and a battle, then we’ll look forward to Saturday.

“Ultimately I think we’ll be underdogs in each round of the FA Cup now, we’re the bottom level in it. We don’t mind being underdogs, we enjoy that side of it.

“The buzz is good, the boys are good, the dressing room is good. Everyone has bought into it so far and we’re really enjoying ourselves, which is the main thing.”

*Romford’s over-50s missed out on a place at the Walking Football League’s Alliance National Cup finals day.

The Essex champions travelled to Guildford in Surrey for a three-team round-robin competition, with the winner going through to the big day.

And they had a great start as they beat a strong Godalming side, the Surrey champions, 1-0 in a tough match thanks to a goal from Irish international Liam Flanagan.

But their second game did not go to plan as Thames Valley champions Bracknell played a controlling game and patiently picked off Boro for a 3-0 win before drawing with Godalming to qualify.

Romford over-50s: Neil Clements, Pete Wallace, Dave Snook, Ray Webster, Darren Fitch, Chandra Nair, Liam Flanagan.
