A crackdown on nuisance drinkers in Romford looks set to continue after a consultation was launched on plans to extend an order banning open alcohol containers.
Havering Council opened the consultation on July 27 for plans to extend a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), implemented in 2017.
The current PSPO bans people from carrying open containers of alcohol and drinking in a public place within a specific zone, named the town centre’s alcohol control area.
“Breaking the terms of the PSPO without reasonable excuse is a criminal offence,” the council said.
People can be prosecuted or issued a fixed penalty notice for breaching thr PSPO, it added.

The PSPO, which only applies to public spaces, has already been extended twice and will carry the same terms if the extension goes ahead.
It will not affect the possession or consumption of alcohol in clubs, pubs, bars and other licensed businesses, the council said.
