Householders rolled their sleeves up to help create a community garden on their doorstep.
They potted flowers, fruits and vegetables ready to be planted at Romford’s new Waterloo development.
It was organised by Havering Council and its 12 Estates partner Wates, with the garden designed by the families themselves — helped by urban garden specialists.

The council and Wates paused building work on the scheme in May, citing uncertainty about new building safety legislation regarding taller buildings.
“We’re keen to resolve questions around legislation on building heights,” Cllr Graham Williamson said.
“But in the meantime, this is a fantastic way for the local residents to shape the space and make use of it to the benefit of the local community.”
The garden is being formally opened later this month with a barbecue laid on for the families.
