Beefeater has launched its seasonal menu and I went along with my husband and our toddler to try it out.

We visited on a baking hot day and were very much in need of some refreshment on arrival.

The cherry bakewell mocktail looked gorgeous and tasted even better.Ilford Recorder: The cherry bakewell mocktailThe cherry bakewell mocktail (Image: Sophie Cox)

Reminiscent of the cake of the same name, it featured cranberry juice mixed with cherry and amaretto syrups, topped with a cherry and cocktail umbrella. It was a delicious summery drink that was most definitely moreish.

For starter, I chose the nachos, which were topped with cheese, tomato and red pepper salsa, guacamole and salad cream.

I enjoyed the opportunity to sample the different dips with the crunchy nachos. I also opted to add pulled beef which was full of flavour. – there is also the opportunity to make this dish vegan-friendly if desired.

My husband had chicken goujons, which were served with ’74 BBQ sauce (or ’74 hot sauce if you fancy more of a spicy kick).

He enjoyed the goujons and felt the tangy sauce was the perfect accompaniment to dip them into.

My husband’s choice of main was the flame grill combo – a meat-lover’s delight.

It featured half a rack of ribs, a chargrilled chicken breast, grilled chicken wings and a hot-link-style sausage served with corn, a generous portion of fries, BBQ sauce and coleslaw (though he ordered it without the latter).

He thought the chicken breast, which was moist and full of flavour, was the highlight of a tasty dish.

The chicken wings had a delicious, crunchy coating while the ribs were also very nice.

Those that enjoy a bit of heat will love the link-style sausage, though it was a little too hot for my husband’s personal taste.

I went for the BBQ chicken tower – grilled chicken thighs served on top of half a jacket potato and flatbread, accompanied by chips, corn on the cob and salad.

The chicken had a nice chargrilled taste to it, reminiscent of summer barbecues, however I felt there was not quite enough to balance out the carb-heavy combination of chips and jacket potato.

For pudding, I opted for the zesty lemon tart – a flavour I have long been a big fan of. It was a light, summery end to the meal, although perhaps not quite as strong a flavour as may have been expected from the ‘zesty’ description.

My husband had the cookie dough and ice cream. Drizzled in chocolate sauce, it was a lovely end to the meal. The crumble topping was absolutely delicious and elevated an already excellent dessert. It also wasn’t too big so may suit those wanting something a little lighter for pud.

We had a lovely experience trying out Beefeater’s new summer menu and left feeling comfortably full.
