Plans to rebuild homes destroyed by Wennington fire approved

Plans to rebuild nine houses destroyed in last year’s Wennington wildfire have been approved by Havering Council.

Planning applications were sent on May 17 this year to replace Marine Cottages numbers 2 to 10 on Wennington Road in Rainham with new houses that would “visually replicate” their old versions.

The current structures, the proposals had said, have suffered “significant” structural damage and have been declared by Havering Council to be unsafe.

The fire in Wennington on July 19 last year destroyed 19 properties.

More than 100 firefighters worked for hours to bring the fire under control and a major incident was declared by the council.

A lot of the homes that burnt down were reportedly uninsured and the council had to step in to provide alternative accommodation to some of the displaced people.

The plans, submitted by Studio C Architects on behalf of the owners of each affected property, were green-lit on July 11 by the council.

Demolition work to remove the destroyed houses began on January 9 and was completed towards the end of March this year.
