Plan to build eight new homes on Harold Wood semi-detached site

A planning application was sent to Havering Council on August 21 to redevelop the site at 128-130 Shepherds Hill in Harold Wood.

The land is currently occupied by a three-bedroom and a four-bedroom semi-detached house with a large garage and a workshop attached to the one of them.

A design statement attached with the proposal stated that the location falls within a residential area so in terms of land use, the site is “suitable for housing development”.

The site is located next to Pages Wood, and is separated from it by a paddock immediately to the east. However, the new houses will have minimal impact on park users, the statement claimed.

The statement says the proposal is “consistent with the symmetry of the neighbouring properties” and “styled to be in keeping”.

The choice of materials will be made to “complement the neighbouring buildings and maintain the existing palate”, it added.

The plan aims to provide a 50/50 split of four and three-bedroom homes, which the statement said meets the current needs in the area.

It added that parking will be to the front for each property next to their private garage, and there will be spaces for two cycles in the rear gardens.

The original outline application reportedly pitched 12 two-bedroom dwellings on site, but this was changed to eight three to four-bedroom homes after consultation with a council planning officer at the pre-application stage.
