Daggers travelled without a win in their previous seven matches – two draws, five losses – following a 2-1 defeat to fellow strugglers York City in midweek.
But they welcomed big striker Inih Effiong back into their starting line-up for the first time since his collapse at Maidenhead on August 19.
Only four minutes had been played when James Norwood netted for the home side, but Daggers looked to respond and saw Effiong have an effort blocked.
The visitors controlled play around the middle of the first half, but saw Effiong booked on 23 minutes.
Elliot Justham denied Brennan Dickenson as Oldham moved the ball well, but opposite number Matthew Hudson had to make a good save at the other end to thwart Josh Rees after a fine move by Daggers.
And the visitors countered well on 38 minutes, sweeping the ball out to the left to Freddie Sears, who shot wide.
Harry Phipps headed just wide from a Josh Hare corner early in the second half, with Mike Fondop firing into the side netting for the home side soon after.
Rees was denied by Hudson midway through the second half, but Norwood headed wide at the other end on 69 minutes.
Charley Kendall replaced Conor Lawless soon after and Daggers got back on terms when the substitute’s left-footed cross found Rees to head into the far corner of the net.
Effiong’s shot on the turn stung the palms of Hudson on 80 minutes, before Lewis Page made way for Omar Mussa.
Sears was replaced by David Longe-King in a final throw of the dice by Ben Strevens, with Justham producing an incredible save in the seventh minute of stoppage time, before Frank Vincent almost won it for Daggers at the other end just seconds later.
Dagenham & Redbridge: Justham, Hare, Hessenthaler, Vincent, Rees, Effiong, Francis-Clarke, Page (Mussa 84), Phipps, Lawless (Kendall 71), Sears (Longe-King 90). Unused subs: Appiah-Forson, Ibie.
