Mohammed Kudus: West Ham United fans will be entertained

Mohammed Kudus said the West Ham United fans should expect some entertainment after joining from Ajax.

Kudus signed a five-year deal, for an undisclosed fee, to follow in the footsteps of fellow arrivals James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez and Dinos Mavrapanos.

And the exciting attacking talent cannot wait to wear the claret and blue shirt.

“I like to entertain the fans as I think that is what football is about,” he told whufc.com.

“I’m just here to do my best to help the team. The fans should expect some entertainment!

“I’ve been dreaming to play in a league like this since I was a kid, so I’m just taking each day by itself and following my dream and I’m here today.

“It doesn’t stop here, as we keep writing history and keep going.”

Kudus, 23, completed his move to London Stadium on Sunday, after David Moyes’ men ran out 3-1 winners at Brighton & Hove Albion a day earlier.

Having started his journey with home-town club Strong Tower in Ghana at the age of 10, he caught the eye of scouts in Europe in his later teenage years, then joined Danish club Nordsjaelland at the age of 18 before earning his move to Ajax.

“For me, a player from Africa, it was a good step because I didn’t want to take big steps,” he added.

“I needed time to learn a lot of stuff because it’s a whole different culture in Europe compared to Africa, so it was a good step and learning experience for me. I was there for two seasons and then, boom, to Ajax!”

Kudus admitted the decision to move to Amsterdam was an easy one to make and proved another perfect learning experience.

“It’s more about performance than results. And I believe that’s the best way to develop,” he said.

“It’s about developing as a player and the style of play really fits how I want to play, with more focus on the technical and tactical part of the game. It was a perfect learning experience over there.”

Kudus netted a hat-trick in his last game for the Dutch giants, against Ludogrets in a UEFA Europa League play-off tie last week, as speculation mounted about a possible move and agreed it was a great way to say goodbye.

“The only job I could do was just do my job on the pitch and I just did it,” he added.

“When I’m on the pitch, all the noise outside stays there. Everything on the pitch stays on the pitch, so my full focus was on that game, even though the other stuff was going on off the pitch.

“I live in the precise moment, so at that exact moment I was an Ajax player so I was just doing my best for the badge and you’ll see the same thing over here.”

Kudus spoke to former Ajax teammate Edson Alvarez about his early impressions of the club, as well as current Ghana captain and former Hammer Andre Ayew.

And having netted two goals for his country in a 3-2 win over South Korea at last year’s World Cup, he is now relishing big matches in the Premier League.

“With the national team the World Cup is the biggest stage in world football, so to perform on that stage was a career highlight for me!” he added.

“All the fixtures are big for me. But I approach every game with the same mentality, so I’m looking forward to all the games.”
