A man has been bailed after armed police arrested him in connection with alleged drugs offences near a supermarket.

Bedfordshire Police said this afternoon (August 11) that a man was arrested, interviewed and later bailed after the force’s national database flagged him as being wanted for drug-related offences yesterday (August 10).

“Our force was notified of a vehicle stopped in Romford around 1pm yesterday,” a spokesperson added.

Armed officers had stopped a vehicle in Brentwood Road, Gidea Park at 11.40am yesterday, Met Police confirmed.

After the stop, a man was arrested having been wanted for drugs offences.

Social media commenters had reported seeing police outside the Co-op supermarket in the same road.

Sandra Middleton asked on Facebook: “Has anyone got any idea about what’s happening in Brentwood Road Co-op?

“A lot of police.”

The car was seized by police for unrelated driving offences.
