The yellow warning is in place from Monday, June 12 at 12pm until 9pm later this evening.

The weather service has told London residents to expect thunderstorms from Monday afternoon which may bring some disruption.

In light of the weather warnings, the Met Office has also shared important advice on how to deal with the severe weather including guidance on driving and staying safe in storms.

What to expect from the Met Office’s yellow weather warning

The Met Office has told the public to expect the following:

  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

Providing further details of the thunderstorm warning, the Met Office said: “Thunderstorms and torrential downpours are expected to break out across central England and Wales during Monday.

“These will be slow moving and intense leading to some large accumulations with in excess of 30 mm in an hour for some locations and the potential for 60-80 mm or more in a few hours where thunderstorms align for a time.

“Frequent lightning and hail are likely to be additional hazards.”
