Limehouse dog unseats mounted police officer during attack

A police officer has suffered minor injuries after her horse was attacked by a dog.

Police have said that just two mounted police officers were conducting routine duties in Maroon Street, Limehouse, yesterday evening (August 18).

Shortly before 5pm, a dog ran out from a nearby house and bit one of the police horses.

A video posted online appeared to show a dog chasing a mounted police officer down a street, while jumping up at the horse’s legs.

The rider of the horse, a police constable, was unseated in the attack. She sustained minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

The police horse bolted from the scene but was quickly revered by officers a short distance away. It had sustained injuries to its legs.

The dog also received minor injuries after it was trodden on by the horse, and has since been seized by police.

A police spokesperson said that officers has recorded an offence relating to a dog being dangerously out of control, but that no arrest has been made at this stage.
