Archibald’s second-half goal sealed a 2-0 win at Brisbane Road, after Watford loanee Shaq Forde had opened the scoring before the break with his first goal for the club.

And it allowed O’s to record their first win in the third tier this season, having claimed their first point in a goalless draw at Blackpool a week earlier.

“I enjoyed it, it was excellent, the fans were good – three points,” Archibald told the club website.

“We just need to use this as motivation to believe in ourselves – which we already do – but they were top of the league at the start of today.

“We’ve stuck together, the intensity has gone up and it wasn’t a complete performance today, but it was closer to what we know we can do.”

O’s had lost earlier fixtures at Charlton and Wycombe, either side of a home defeat against Portmsouth, but Archibald felt they had been hampered at times.

“I thought we were good against Wycombe, I thought we good in aspects against Blackpool and today we kind of put it all together,” he added.

“We’ve not had the rub of the green so far this season but I’ve had a good feeling about the last couple of games to be honest.

“I hate saying we’ve not had the rub of the green and we’ve been a bit unfortunate and unlucky but we have been.”

Head coach Richie Wellens praised his players for their hard work in the build-up to the match and hailed them for their ‘brilliant entertainment’.

He said: “The players have took on a lot of information this week about the way they play, the ball speed, and I think at times that was brilliant entertainment, as well as a real good result.

“It was brilliant entertainment, I thought we was exceptional. We was against Wycombe away, exceptional, and just didn’t score and defend our box better.

“We had that today, we could’ve scored quite a few more goals. But we was absolutely brilliant.”

Wellens also revealed how he had a feeling it was going to be a good day for his side while making his way to the ground.

“I knew it was going to be a brilliant day today,” he added.

“I was on my way to the ground and I see this guy, about mid-50s, in a convertible car, pull up at the lights, I looked to my left and just see him loving life.

“I looked across and thought ‘what a guy’.”

Acknowledging the happy driver to be BBC London’s Dave Victor, Wellens then added: “I was going to bib at you and wave, but you were enjoying that sun beaming down on you so I thought I’d leave you to it!”
