Leyton Orient loanee looking for as many wins as possible

The 23-year-old became the club’s 11th signing of the summer when joining late on transfer deadline day.

And he was at Brisbane Road at the weekend to see his new club in action, albeit in a 3-0 loss to League One rivals Stevenage.

“I’m delighted to be here, just can’t wait to get going now,” he told the club website. 

“I’ve seen a lot of the game today, been around the club and just want to get on the grass and start playing.

“I’ve spoken to the manager a couple of times now, basically just getting in and playing, seeing what I can add to the team.

“I think the style here will suit me from what I’ve seen and what I know of the manager in the past.

“It’s just adding to the team and try and get as many wins as possible.”

Centre-back Cooper has signed until January, following previous loan spells at Yeovil, Newport County, Swindon Town and Forest Green Rovers, where he made 21 appearances.

And he also has nine Wales U21 caps and was called into the senior squad in March 2021 for a friendly against Mexico and World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic.

“Every loan I’ve been on has challenged me in a different way and made me grow. I’ve learnt so much from each one,” he added.

“A variety of different teams and styles as well, so I’m quite accustomed to playing different ways.

“I’ll use as much experience as I can from that to help the team here and just look forward to getting playing now. To play as much as I can, and win as many games. That’s why I’m here.”

As to what O’s supporters can expect to see – and hear – from him when he does get onto the field of play, Cooper painted a clear picture.

“I think you expect a ball-playing centre-back. I’m a winner, I like to compete, I’m aggressive when I play and I like to lead,” he said.

“Expect to hear me shouting if you’re in the stand, maybe getting onto refs! It’s just part of the winning and I’m here to win as many games as possible to get this club going where it should go.”
