Leyton Orient confident for Fleetwood trip says midfielder

O’s have taken seven points from a possible nine in League One, having beaten Shrewsbury Town at Brisbane Road last weekend.

Fleetwood have just two points from eight matches so far this season and sit next-to-bottom, but have a new manager in Lee Johnson, after sacking Scott Brown at the start of the month.

“I think they will be right at it because they’re right down at the bottom,” Moncur told the club website.

“When you get a new manager come in, everyone starts to run around and go mad.

“I think we’ll see a reaction from them, but there’s no doubt that if we go and turn up and play our game we can beat them.

“Everyone’s confident, every game we go into now we actually believe we’re going to win the game.

“Circumstances in the games some time will change that, but we’ve got great character so if we go behind or the game is tight I think we’ve got enough to get back into it and win the game.”

O’s lost their first three games of the campaign, before battling to a draw at Blackpool and beating Cambridge United.

And after a disappointing home defeat against Stevenage – who were promoted behind them last season – they won at then leaders Exeter City and picked up a point from a draw at Peterborough.

“Maybe we’re playing a bit different to last year, but it’s working and we’re playing more forward, instead of just keeping the ball,” added Moncur.

“At the end of the day we want to win games. We’ve got a great team, great players that can play on the ball, but it’s about getting the balance between the two and I think in the last three or four games we’ve done that.

“The dressing room is great. There’s so many players that have different attributes and we all work together. It comes together really well.

“When you get one win, that boosts a lot of confidence knowing that you can do it. Everyone took that forward and I don’t see why we can’t be right up there by the end.”

Ruel Sotiriou’s first-half goal proved enough to see off Shrewsbury last Saturday, as O’s climbed above their rivals into 15th place.

And Moncur admitted it felt good to walk off with the three points, adding: “You’re going to get those games and if you come off on the losing end of that, you’ll be really disappointed.

“It’s one of those games where it’s not really on the floor a lot, but when you get a chance you take it.

“Solly is on fire and we need me and people to do more in terms of getting more goals, which I believe will come.

“It’s a great win, if you can win those games, you’re flying. We’ve just got to take that into the next games coming up and look to improve on our position in the table.”

Moncur, 30, has appeared in all 12 games played by Richie Wellens side this season, but is yet to add to the nine goals he scored last time around.

And he is pleased with the changes that he has made to his individual game, but knows he can improve further.

“It’s been difficult for me in terms of scoring and getting forward in the last three or four games, but I’ve been working on the defensive side more and more,” he said.

“I’ve been focusing more on my tackles and the last four games I believe I’ve done that. But I’ve not probably done enough going forwards.

“I’ve got to get a balance between the two, where I used to leave the defending and go and attack, now I’ve probably gone the other way. I’ve got to get the right balance and try and improve.”
