Former O’s midfielder Hector Kyprianou put Posh in front, but Omar Beckles claimed an equaliser from Jordan Graham’s cross.

And neither side could find a winner in the second half as it ended all square.

“When you go away from home against a team that is a yo-yo club from the Championship to League One and get a point you have to take it, especially going 1-0 down to a really poor goal,” Wellens told the club website.

“If you concede them goals to a big, physical team you’re disappointed but even more so against these, they’re a good footballing team, not very physical.

“We played out to Jordan Graham and we know he’s got the ability to beat defenders one-v-one and it’s a great header.

“Pleased we’ve come from behind twice in two away games where we’ve set our mentality to be a little bit different, in the way we play and to get four points from those two games is really pleasing.”

O’s had snatched a late win at table-topping Exeter City a week earlier and Wellens felt his players had given their travelling supporters another good day out.

“Our supporters enjoyed it, I get that we’ve had to change our way but we’ve needed to stabilise ourselves, we’ve needed these four points from two games,” he added.

“Now we have a block of 10-12 games, with all due respect, where the teams are going to be around the bottom.

“We’ve played the likes of Blackpool, Wycombe, Plymouth – Charlton the first day was always going to be a tough game, a local derby, but I think our supporters enjoyed the endeavour, the work rate, our counter-attacking was very good at times.

“It’s a really good club that can produce players and win promotion to the Championship, so I’m really pleased and I think the supporters appreciate that.”

O’s find themselves in 16th place with eight points from eight games and Wellens feels results are now better reflecting their performances.

“If you look at our form, everybody said we had a bad start but it was just a bad start in terms of results,” he said.

“The performances were good and the results could’ve looked different.

“Wycombe away, Blackpool away. Every team will have situations where they can think back and add points on, but we do believe we should’ve been in a different position.

“We were very conscious these were two tough away games, we wanted to start getting our points tally ticking over.

“If you’d offered me one win out of the two I probably would’ve took it so to get four points is really pleasing.

“I think we could win the game with the amount of counter-attacks at the end but it’s a tough place to come.

“They tested us tactically and I think we had the answers in the end, we should’ve nicked it.”
