George Hankins hit a double century as Hornchurch put Loughton to the sword in the Hamro Foundation Essex League Premier Division on Saturday.

Paul Murray (22) put on 46 for the first wicket with Jalpesh Vijay after captain Billy Gordon chose to bat at Harrow Lodge Park, but Jamie Sorrell fell for a second-ball duck, which brought Hankins to the crease at 46-2.

Hankins put on 136 with Vijay, who hit three sixes and 11 fours in his 87 off 51 balls, before skipper Gordon (42) added another 124 for the fourth wicket.

Adeel Malik (22) shared 73 with Hankins, who was eventually dismissed for 201 from 137 balls, having hit five sixes and 28 fours.

Hornchurch ended their 50 overs on a whopping 403-7, with shellshocked Loughton making 246-8 in reply as Marc Whitlock (2-37) and Gordon (2-49) nabbed braces for the hosts.

Defending champions Wanstead were also celebrating after a two-wicket win in a low-scoring contest against Hutton at the Polo Field Ground.

The hosts slumped to 58-7 after choosing to bat, but Connor Whetstone (34 not out) and Will Spires (23) put on 56 to help lift their total to 135.

Hamza Shoaib was the chief destroyer for Wanstead with 5-24, as Zain Shahzad (2-19) bagged a pair.

The Herons slipped to 11-2 in reply as Thomas Debenham struck twice in quick succession, but Haaris Usman (29) and Aryan Ahmed (27) helped them reach 102-4, before four more wickets fell.

Debenham finished with 4-57, as Sean Sullivan nabbed 2-26, but visiting captain Joe Ellis-Grewal kept his cool during a 58-minute stay at the crease to see his side home in the 33rd over.

Brentwood, meanwhile, came up short in their clash at Buckhurst Hill.

Bailey Wightman struck with the new ball before the hosts had a run on the board, but they recovered to post 261-9.

Wightman (3-55) and Ian Belchamber (3-66) had most success for Brentwood, who lost Ed Ballard (21) and Daniel Drew, to a second-ball duck, in quick succession.

Captain Aaron West put on 54 with Jack Hebron for the third wicket and another 53 with Charlie Griffiths for the eighth.

But West then fell for 109 from 140 balls, having hit two sixes and seven fours, and Griffiths (31) followed soon after as the visitors closed on 254-9.
