It comes days after terror suspect Daniel Khalife escaped from the prison on Wednesday morning (September 6) by hiding under a food delivery lorry.

But now an inmate is in a “critical condition” and was taken to a major trauma centre by ambulance after the police were called just after 3pm to reports of an inmate being assaulted at the prison, according to Sky News.

It’s thought the incident was between two prisoners and an air ambulance also attended the scene.

The police said that no arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Staff swiftly responded to an incident between prisoners at HMP Wandsworth today.

“We have a zero tolerance approach to violence and will always take strong action against those who break these rules.”

Daniel Khalife charged and will appear in court after escaping HMP Wandsworth

Khalife who escaped from HMP Wandsworth earlier this week has been charged with escaping custody, the Metropolitan Police have said.

It comes as the former soldier was arrested at 10.41am on Saturday (September 9) on a canal towpath in west London after being pulled off a push bike by a plain-clothed counter-terrorism officer.

The 21-year-old was awaiting trial after allegedly planting a fake bomb at an RAF base and gathering information that might be useful to terrorists or enemies of the UK.

In a statement the Met Police said: “Daniel Abed Khalife, 21, will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday September 11 charged as follows: On the 6th day of September 2023, then being a prisoner in His Majesty’s Prison at Wandsworth, being remanded in custody pending trial as ordered at the Central Criminal Court on the 21st day of July 2023, escaped, contrary to common law.”
