The band, known for hits including ‘American Idiot’ and ‘Holiday’ played the concert to unsuspecting fans at The Marquis pub in Covent Garden.

Green Day’s special show came ahead of another intimate gig at Camden’s Electric Ballroom before taking to Wembley Stadium next summer.

Comprising of lead singer and guitarist, Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool, Green Day recently announced their new album “Saviours.”

Green Day surprise London pubgoers

One lucky London pubgoer who got to see Green Day‘s intimate gig, Will Gamble, 27, a regional operations manager said: “So my friend had a tip-off from a good friend close to the band that the show was happening at a bar on Chandos Place.

“We actually walked into the wrong pub initially and sat in The Harp a few doors down being like “hmm surely it can’t be here?!” – turns out we were over-excited and turned into the first pub on the road that The Marquis was on.

“Anyway we sank our pints quickly and walked into the Marquis at about 19:30 where there was a sign saying ‘Busk Till Dawn@9pm’ there were four other people at the front of which one had been tipped off after bumping into Mike Dirnt’s wife earlier that day that it was there.”

However, one happy punter, shared Green Day’s surprise concert location on Reddit prompting a huge rush of people to the venue seeing the police area to calm the situation down.

A support band came on and played some covers including some hits from Green Day at 9.30pm.

Then at 10pm Green Day took to the stage and performed their set to a crowd of adoring fans and regular pubgoers.

Will added: “[Afterwards] we stood outside for like an hour in disbelief, along with the police turning up due to crowds on the road!

“The first album I ever bought was Bullet In A Bible in 2005  they are the reason I love music.

“This felt like a full circle moment, I never thought I’d have the chance to see them at a smaller venue than when I saw them at Shepherds Bush Empire in 2012, let alone a pub!!!”
