Romford and Barking booked their progress in the FA Cup with extra preliminary round wins on the road.

But Frenford saw their first-ever match in the competition end in slender defeat, while Essex Senior League rivals Athletic Newham, Ilford and Sporting Bengal all face replays, along with Isthmian North outfit Redbridge,

Buoyed by back-to-back league wins, Romford took the lead inside two minutes at Halstead Town through Harrison Georgiou, who converted a cross from Jayden Silcott-Brown, who was set free by Henry Hart.

And, after Scott Doe headed against his own post and Halstead found the net but saw it ruled out for a foul on Hart, the visitors doubled their advantage just before the break when Junior Luke cleared Sonny Dotton’s effort off the line and Boro broke upfield.

Doe saw another header parried by Jack Cherry and Michael Turner was first to react to convert the loose ball.

It was 3-0 just past the hour mark when Newby crossed from the right and, when Hassan Nalbant diverted the ball against a post, Georgiou claimed his second of the day.

Finlay Dorrell cut in from the left to fire a stunning fourth past Cherry from 25 yards on 68 minutes, before the Humbugs grabbed a consolation from the penalty spot courtesy of Kane Gilbert.

Boro will now host Welwyn Garden City on August 19.

Landlords Barking claimed a 1-0 win at Cockfosters thanks to a goal early in the second half from Gabriel Oloko.

Martin Tuohy sent an early chance wide before Harry Girling kept out George Sippett’s well-struck shot with his legs at the other end.

George Lutanya found the net for the hosts but saw it ruled out and Kenedi Dariri had a header cleared off the line by Joe Entwhistle.

The deadlock was broken soon after the restart, though, as captain Aundre Spencer’s through ball found Brad Rowland and when his shot was blocked by Quamil Dequishat, Oloko fired home the rebound.

Girling made another good save on 77 minutes and Entwhistle had a shot deflected over, before Lutanya’s curling effort was tipped over in stoppage time and Jason Beck fired over following another Girling save.

Barking visit Heybridge Swifts in the next round.

Athletic Newham produced a stunning late comeback from three goals down to earn a 3-3 draw with Tooting & Mitcham United.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men inside the first half an hour and saw the visitors open the scoring from the penalty spot.

Tooting struck twice more in the second half to move 3-0 up, but Richard Kone converted a penalty for 10-man Athletic with 12 minutes left and added a second soon after.

Hotshot Kone then completed his second hat-trick of the campaign to ensure Athletic got a second chance on Tuesday.

Sporting Bengal also came back from three goals down at Mile End Stadium to earn a thrilling 4-4 draw with Stansfeld in stoppage time.

They were 3-0 down with barely 10 minutes played, but hit back with a quickfire double from Matthew Ball and Sam Edwards before the 16-minute mark.

And it was all square when Kachi Yassin netted just past the hour mark, only for the visitors to go 4-3 up from the penalty spot late on.

Yassin struck in the 94th minute to keep Bengal in the competition, though, and the two sides will meet again in midweek.

Manager Steve Clark said: “Delighted we’re still in the competition. We’ve gotten away with it there. Too many mistakes.

“But in terms of goals scored, I thought the four we put in the back of the net were different class.

“In cup football, as long as you’re in the next round, that’s all that matters.

“I think it will be much tighter and the margins will be much closer.

“We’ve got tons of improvement in us. The goals we concede they are mistakes on our behalf. That gives me positivity. The areas we need to improve on is something we’ll work on. The players have so much more to give.

“I think Stansfeld were probably at their best and we were far from ours and we’ll be ready for Tuesday night.”

Redbridge had to settle for a 2-2 draw with New Salamis, as Jack Chawner and Abs Thompson saw their goals cancelled out by Derek Asamoah and will head to Haringey Borough for a replay on Tuesday.

Ilford will have a second meeting with Colney Heath at Cricklefields on Monday after a 1-1 draw in Hertfordshire.

The Foxes took the lead on the hour courtesy of a penalty from debutant Oliseh Okungi.

But the hosts hit back from the spot five minutes into injury time to ensure a replay.
