Urchins had come from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with the National League South side on Saturday and took the lead in the third qualifying round replay at Bridge Avenue.

But Millers levelled late on, then snatched a 2-1 victory and home date with Barnet with a late winner during the extra period.

Steve Morison’s men began well, with Joe Christou seeing a volley saved by Jonathan North on six minutes.

George Saunders fired over, before Kenny Aileru was too high at the other end for the visitors.

And North turned another effort from Sam Higgins behind for a corner, before the home side got their noses in front on 31 minutes.

Good play by Lennon Peake led to a cross, which Tom Wraight helped on for Higgins to fire home at the far post to the delight of the home fans in a crowd of 729.

And Aveley saw an Aileru attempt deflected wide, before Charlee Hughes shot over the crossbar just before the interval.

Hughes volleyed over early in the second half, while Christou headed Nathan Green’s cross over on the hour mark.

And a long throw-in fell for Hughes to slice another shot wide midway through the second half, before North saved well from Higgins.

Tommie Hoban and Jordan Clark produced vital clearances as Millers kept the pressure on, while Dion Henry came up with an incredible save from a header.

But the visitors drew level with five minutes of normal time remaining when Hughes headed home a left-wing cross and it went to an extra half-hour.

Matt Rush and Eduino Vaz had a couple of chances apiece for Millers in the first period, while Ade Yusuff was wide of the target in the 111th minute for Hornchurch.

Dara Dada went close moments later, while Wraight dragged a shot wide when Green’s cross was half-cleared.

But Aveley claimed a 115th-minute winner when Rush fired a low shot into the corner of the net, before Clark had a header saved by North in stoppage time and the ball was scrambled clear.

Urchins will look to pick themselves up for their FA Trophy third qualifying round tie at Leiston on Saturday, while Aveley look forward to hosting Barnet a week later as they bid for a place alognside EFL clubs in the first round of the FA Cup.
