National Highways has confirmed that it will be extending the payment period for people who have crossed the Dartford Crossing over the weekend.

Some people have reported being unable to access the website to pay the toll fee.

According to National Highways, the Dart Charge website is still experiencing “exceptionally high” demand, and now it has been confirmed that there will be an extension to make payments.

The extension dates back from Thursday, July 27, to allow everyone “sufficient time” to make a payment, once the system is functioning as normal.

The website has been down for maintenance over the weekend, causing automatic payments to be suspended and customers asked to manually pay once the website was back online or via phone.

Phone lines were also overwhelmed at the weekend, with some customers saying that they waited hours to speak with a representative over the weekend.

Customers are also concerned about not being able to revalidate their cards due to the ongoing website issues.

National Highways has thanked people for their patience and said it is “working hard” to resolve the issue.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The Dart Charge contact centre and website is still experiencing exceptionally high demand after the system updates made over the weekend.

“We are extending the payment period for crossings made since Thursday 27 July to allow everyone sufficient time to make payment once the system is functioning as normal.

“We thank people for their patience while we work hard to resolve this and will provide further regular updates.”
