Dagenham & Redbridge will not rip up playbook says coach

Daggers have taken just one point from their last four games and failed to find the net in their three most recent outings.

But Young says it is not a case of going back to the drawing board as they aim to get back to winning ways.

“They’re gutted, but they’re gutted after every game when you don’t come away with a win,” said Young after Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to Hartlepool United.

“I think we’re going to play a lot worse this season and win games.

“Trying to lift the team straight after a loss is going to be difficult, but we’ve got to dust ourselves down and go again.

“We’ve got to score, we’ve got to start winning those games.

“When it’s that tightness, you can see we don’t look like we’re going to concede many, they’ve had two big chances, they’re moments that are going against us at the minute.

“Does that mean we rip up the playbook and start again? I don’t think so.

“If we can start taking those chances at the other end, we’ve gone to two up top, we’ve put Phippsy [Harry Phipps] up top, we’ve really tried to get after them, but unfortunately it’s not fallen for us.

“But that doesn’t mean we’re going to down tools, we’ll go away, assess it, and go again at Halifax on Tuesday.”

Sam Ling’s own goal proved the difference between the two sides at Victoria Road at the weekend, after Daggers had also lost 1-0 to Bromley in midweek.

And Young thanked the Daggers fans for their support, having seen the team overcome a similarly poor start to the campaign before beating Barnet, Wealdstone and Fylde in successive outings.

“The support from everyone around us has been fantastic,” he added.

“Everywhere we go, every fan we speak to, they’ve been fantastic, away from home or at home.

“They can tell the boys are giving them everything and they’re giving us everything.

“The united front we’re showing at the moment is fantastic, but on the flip side, we don’t want to be where we are at the moment, we don’t want to have a run like we are at the moment, we had it before and come out and won three on the bounce.

“We know we’ve got it in there and the quality we’ve got inside the building.”
