Dagenham & Redbridge have released an update on striker Inih Effiong, who collapsed on the pitch at the end of their National League game at Maidenhead United on Saturday.
Daggers lost 1-0 to the Magpies, after Reece Smith struck the only goal just before the hour mark.
But that defeat was put into context by the medical emergency surrounding Effiong, 32, after the final whistle as he was treated by staff from both clubs and an ambulance was called, before paramedics continued to treat him and then took him off to hospital.
A club statement released on Sunday said: “The club is pleased to report that after a night in Wycombe General Hospital Inih Effiong is sitting up in bed and feeling much better.
“Tests undertaken to date have revealed no underlying condition.
“Inih will undergo further tests today, but he is now eating normally.
“We would like to pass on our best wishes to Inih and his family, who have gone through a very stressful time, and wish him a full and speedy recovery.
“We would also like to thank everyone at Maidenhead United and the wonderful medical staff who attended to Inih so quickly after he became unwell.
“In particular their Club Therapist, Max Bangura and Club Doctor, Mandip Singh. Also the response paramedics and the staff at Wycombe General Hospital.
“Not forgetting of course our own Bryony [Woolley], who was first on the scene and showed true professionalism throughout.
“A special shout out also to ex-Dagger and close friend of Inih’s, Kevin Lokko, now at Maidenhead, who along with Bryony supported Inih’s finance Jemma at the hospital last night.
“Jemma has asked that we thank everyone for all the messages of support.”
Daggers, having taken just one point from their first four matches this season, are due to host Barnet next Saturday, before a trip to Wealdstone on Bank Holiday Monday.
