But Daggers will travel with confidence after beating AFC Fylde 3-1 to record their third successive victory in a week.

And Omar Mussa sealed the points on the hour as Daggers moved up to 11th.

“Really pleased with the response. It was a tough moment at Maidenhead, the way we felt after,” Strevens told the club website, referring to the collapse of Inih Effiong after the 1-0 defeat.

“But to go and get nine points. Going away to Chesterfield, I know they’ve won again, probably the stand-out behind Notts County and Wrexham last year as the next best team, we know it will be a really tough fixture.

“We will go there humble and respectful of the players they’ve got, but try and do our stuff as well.

“I feel we can cause teams problems, as long as we play the way we are, are humble enough to work hard without the ball, and then show the quality when we’re getting our moments to.

“We’re going to enjoy today, build into it next week, we’ve got a free week to build to it and fingers crossed go there and put on a good performance that hopefully gets us a good result.”

Mussa found the net for a second successive match and Strevens was keen to praise the midfielder for his recent efforts.

“Mus can be anything he wants to be,” he added.

“Our most important job for him and us is keep him in the moment he’s in at the moment. Realise why he’s getting lots of credit, what he is doing well.

“He’s got undoubted ability. No-one has ever questioned that since he’s joined the club. Everyone can see how much of a good footballer he is.

“He’s doing stuff off the ball, which we’re trying to help him with. It doesn’t come naturally to him, but he’s trying his hardest to get better at it.

“The credit goes to the group with the way Mussa is performing because they helped him straight back in, made him settle straight away, and that’s probably showing in the way he’s playing now.

“How comfortable he is with the boys, they’re delighted for him as well.”

Daggers announced three new season-long loan signings before Saturday’s game, in Flynn Clarke, Keenan Appiah-Forson and Aidan Francis-Clarke.

Norwich City youngster Clarke made his debut off the bench, with Strevens delighted to also have Luton’s Francis-Clarke and West Ham’s Appish-Forson on board.

“He [Francis-Clarke] was on the bench against West Ham so couldn’t get registered in time, but he’s a boy I know about from Luton and he did really well in his loan spell at St Albans,” he said.

“He’s going to come into the group and help us. Defensively we’re quite light. Westy goes away on international duty so it was a bit of a calculated risk to play Westy there instead of Pagey.

“The boy joining us from West Ham [Appiah-Forson] has got real good quality, is going to add to the group as well, and it’s about building that relationship between the clubs.

“They were keen on him coming to us, being local and helping him, so hopefully that’s building a relationship between the two clubs.”
