Substitute Charley Kendall sealed a 1-0 victory in stoppage time, with Daggers going back on the road to Dorking Wanderers on Saturday.

And Strevens admitted he was surprised to see so many fans travelling to cheer his side on, after a 3-1 home defeat against Boreham Wood in midweek.

“I was bitterly disappointed Tuesday night, but it’s two wins out of the last three games,” he told the club website.

“Did I expect there to be that turnout today? I should have, because they’re incredible supporters.

“I did not expect it because of the way we played on Tuesday night and the disappointment they felt.

“That’s on me because I should have no doubt that they want us to do well. They get incredibly frustrated, which I get.

“I’ve been out there on the pitch and on the sideline and the anger they would’ve felt on Tuesday night I felt it with them.

“I have to accept that criticism because it was deserved.

“But for that goal to go in at the end, for Charley, the celebrations. All I was worried about was they were trying to take a quick centre, I didn’t really celebrate.

“We’ve had some sucker punches late in games this season, so for us to get one was really good for all of the fans and the players.

“And I think if some of the boys from the bench could’ve got there as well they would’ve celebrated!”

Strevens was able to use the trio of Tom Eastman, Harry Phipps and Elliott Johnson at the back and praised Aidan Francis-Clarke, Sam Ling and Myles Weston for how they reacted to being left out of the side.

“Easty, Phippys and Johnno are experienced, know their roles,” added Strevens.

“It was tough on Aidan because he’s a great kid, I really love him and think he’s got a brilliant future ahead of him at Luton.

“And the way he took the news about not playing, the way Lingy reacted to it, the first time I’ve not played Lingy, was incredible.

“Westy really wanted to play against his former team and I was thinking about it late on and just didn’t know when the moment was to get him on the pitch.

“But he was one of the nucleus on Thursday getting the boys going because he’s such a big character to them.”
