Four fire engines and 20 firefighters attended the scene of a blaze in a flat that investigators believe was started by discarded smoking materials.
Firefighters responded to a call at 10.55pm on Sunday (May 3) to a flat on Straight Road in Romford.
Concerned people nearby took to social media to raise their concerns.
“Terrible fire in Straight Road flats, praying everyone ok and no one hurt,” said Kerry Bulger on a Harold Hill community Facebook group.
But by 3.38am on Monday (May 4), just under five hours since the LAS attended the scene, the fire was under control.
