Town Hall staff have taken time off from their council day jobs to climb three big mountains.
Teams from Brentwood and Rochford local authorities roped up for a “public sector” challenge to conquer Britain’s three iconic peaks and raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Most got to the summit of Snowdonia in north Wales, Scarfell Pike in the English Lake District and Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands all within 24 hours.
But the time getting from one mountain to another took its toll on some who didn’t quite make it.
“Not everyone was able to complete all three peaks due to travel times,” Brentwood and Rochford joint chief executive Jonathan Stephenson explained. “But this should not put down their achievements for a noble cause.
“Cancer touches so many either directly or through friends or family. The funds will help research and bring us one step closer to defeating cancer.”
They raised £50,500 between them and an extra £10,000 through Gift Aid.
The total walking distance was 23 miles and total ascent added up was about 9,000 feet above sea level.
