This weekend marks Bonfire Night, with many people heading out to watch the fireworks at local displays and events.

Unfortunately a major east London display in Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets, will not be going ahead for the fourth time in a row – despite crowds of up to 80,000 people normally in attendance.

And sadly there aren’t many other official events taking place, but here are a few in the area which we are aware of:

The ArcelorMittal Orbit

Imagine getting to see the displays taking place across London from the tall landmark in Stratford.

Only a few tickets are left for this today (November 4), which promises a DJ, views from above the Orbit, and a bar available from 7pm to 9.30pm. Those brave enough can ride down the slide as the sky lights up in colour.

Fellowship Square

Although it’s not technically a firework show, Bonfire night will be celebrated in a more environmentally friendly way as the square outside Waltham Forest Town Hall will be transformed into a light show spectacular, with Waltham Forest Council saying it “promises to be an event like no other”.

Organised by Guildhall Live Events, part of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Grade II listed building will be illuminated with lights, projections, and fire effects backed by an original musical performance.

The organisers are also the brains behind the Tower Bridge Blackout and Museum of London’s ‘Beasts of London’ projects.

Attendees can enjoy street food, a full-service bar and many street performers and entertainment.

The first event took place yesterday (November 3) but there are two more on Saturday (November 4) and Sunday (November 5). Tickets are still available. For more information visit: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/guy-fawkes-waltham-forest-light-show-spectacular-tickets-709561727227?aff=oddtdtcreator

Wanstead Rugby Club

Wanstead RFC is yet again hosting its family fireworks events tonight (November 4) at its grounds.

The event it set to take place at 5pm, it is advised that tickets are purchased in advance at: https://wansteadrfc.square.site/?fbclid=IwAR3gdNlTsMdMfd32pZRi3352ZZqzsW3HOO3mT1ElrV5MBTPMx-fQrRvdlUc

Eton Manor Fireworks

Unfortunately, tickets have already sold out to this event and walk-ins cannot be accepted at the gate due to capacity and safety reasons.

But those lucky enough to hold a ticket will be able to treat themselves to the food market and fair at the event at Nutter Lane tomorrow (November 5), with the display setting off at 7pm.

Marshalls Park Academy

If you don’t mind waiting a bit longer to get your fix of seeing the lightshow in the sky, the Friends of Marshalls Park Academy will be hosting another event next Friday (November 10) at the school on Pettits Lane.

Students, staff and members of the public are invited to the show at the school grounds. Gates open at 6pm and there will be food and drink stalls, with the actual fireworks being set off at 7.30pm.
