A man was found not guilty of manslaughter after the death of his girlfriend’s baby in Dagenham.

Mitchell Gibbs, 29, was accused of manslaughter after the death of Albie Johnson, who was nearly 10 months old, in October 2018.

Gibbs, of South Ockendon, was acquitted by a jury after a trial at Woolwich Crown Court.

Albie’s mum, Sophie Crowther, was found guilty of two counts of assault/ill treatment/neglect of a child and one count of perverting the course of public justice.

She was acquitted of a third charge of assault/ill treatment/neglect of a child.

Crowther, 23, from Bethnal Green, was given an eight-month sentence suspended for 18 months and a community order.
