Detective Constable Christopher Gibbons, 32, of Ruislip Street in Tooting, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (July 13).

He was found guilty of harassment following a trial during which the court heard he had harassed the woman 14 times.

DC Gibbons was arrested on September 25 last year after an incident of harassment earlier that day, and the subsequent investigation established that he had been continuously harassing the same woman for 11 days.

The officer will be sentenced at the same court in August.

Chief Superintendent Louise Puddefoot, in charge of policing in Central West BCU which DC Gibbons was attached to, said: “We have made it clear that any police officer or member of staff who commits a criminal offence will be brought to justice.

“We must give London the Met that it deserves, and anyone that fails to meet that standard, particularly if they commit a criminal offence, cannot possibly remain in our organisation.”

A misconduct hearing will be arranged “as soon as possible”, the Met said.
