A store in Romford has been given a ‘zero’ rating for food hygiene by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Apex Food Store, in Farnham Road, Harold Hill, was inspected on June 12.

It sells meat, fish and poultry products, along with international groceries and vegetables.

The shop’s handling of food, including cooling and storage, was found to require “major improvement” by the FSA.

Inspectors also said “major improvement” was needed in its management of food safety that involved ensuring that food sold is safe to eat and that employees are aware of safety protocols.

The cleanliness and condition of facilities to enable good food hygiene also needed improvement, according to the FSA.

These ratings, however, are not a testament to the quality of food, customer service, culinary skills of the makers, presentation of food and comfort of the venue.
