Awareness of dozens of good causes in Redbridge was raised at a volunteers’ fayre.
Some 40 organisations set up stalls at the town hall to promote their work.
The fayre was opened by the new mayor, Jyotsna Islam, promoting “the importance of the community sector during and after the pandemic”.
It was organised by Redbridge Council for Voluntary Services, which has placed 200 people with local organisations over the past year.
There is a need for people to share their experience and ultimately become more active in the community, the organisers — all volunteers themselves — point out.
Their volunteers’ centre at Cranbrook Road in Ilford encourages anyone who lives, works or studies in Redbridge wanting to help local charities.
It runs workshops each month and a one-to-one drop-in service for those interested in becoming more involved in the community.
