Builders have completed the topping out on a social housing complex for 87 new family homes in Barking – with tenants who had lived on the site before guaranteed they can return.

Three blocks of 80 flats and seven townhouses are being built which include nine homes that can be adapted for disabled people.

The final touch was put in place at the site in Roxwell Road by Barking and Dagenham Council’s leader Darren Rodwell.

“Roxwell Road is new homes for people living locally,” he promised. “We’ve attracted more than £4billion investments in the last five years which is testament to the area’s potential.”

The project involved demolishing old housing in 2021 and giving the families a right to return when the new complex is finished.

Work started in August last year and is expected to be ready in 2025.

It is being carried out by Jerram Falkus, the main contractors for the project.
