A man has been arrested on suspicion of ‘drug driving’ and a 12-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital after a crash.

Police were called to Barking Road close to the junction with Melbourne Road in East Ham at 1.26pm this afternoon (June 11).

Officers were responding to reports of a crash involving a car and a 12-year-old boy.

London Ambulance Service paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance also attended the scene.

The boy was taken to an east London hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene. He has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs.

A police spokesperson said that Barking Road remains closed while the incident is investigated.
