Around 100,000 people took to the streets of central London on Saturday calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

Atif Sharif, 41, of Albert Road in Walthamstow, has been charged with causing actual bodily harm.

Police said that the offence relates to an incident in Whitehall where an officer was assaulted and sustained a head injury.

He will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today (October 30).

Four other people were also charged following the protest.

This includes 22-year-old Laura Davis, 22, of Hendon Way in Barnet, who has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence.

Police said the offence relates to an incident around Piccadilly Circus where a placard that was “threatening and racist” in nature was displayed.

She will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 29.

A second person was also arrested in the vicinity of Piccadilly Circus on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence also related to a placard.

They were released with no further action to be taken following a decision by the Crown Prosecution Service.

In total, nine people were arrested on Saturday, two on suspicion of assaulting police officers and seven of public order offences.

A further two people were arrested on Sunday morning on suspicion of inciting racial hatred.

Their arrests followed a public appeal about an incident in Trafalgar Square on Saturday evening.
