Found in Borough Market, Kensington, Camden, City and Finchley, the five London restaurants made it into the top 10 restaurants in the categories of fine dining, hidden gems, vegetarian and every day eats, and they are as follows.
1 mallow, Borough Market – Vegetarian
This fully plant-based restaurant by the Mildreds team took out the top spot for the vegetarian category, and now has a second location in Canary Wharf. Found in an exposed brick dining room in the throng of the south London market, dishes are hearty and are internationally inspired, taking ques from India, South America, Asia and across Europe.
One reviewer said that the food at mallow can’t be topped. They added: “Oh my word, this place is awesome. We are two people in our fifties who have been vegan for decades. We have eaten great food over the years but this place is a cut above the rest. We had the most sublime experience.”
2 Launceston Place, Kensington – Fine Dining
Kensington’s Launceston Place ranked tenth in the fine dining category. The European and British restaurant has a slew of accolades including a Michelin Guide recommendation. Head Chef Ben Murphy was named Chef to Watch 2016 by The Good Food Guide and won the Breakthrough Chef of the year gong at the Food & travel Awards. It’s also ranked 70th out of all restaurants in London, by tripadvisor users.
A recent Tripadvisor review described Launceston Place as “a must go”, stating that “a Michelin star is due”.
3 Bonoo, Finchley – Every Day Eats
Indian restaurant Bonoo in Finchley made third place in the every day eats category, for its healthy tapas-style sharing plates served in a casual dining restaurant. The kitchen prepares a bounty of vegetarian dishes, Indian chaats, classic curries and and tandoor dishes.
One reviewer gave the restaurant five stars, claiming: “That was the best set of curries I’ve ever had… Very small exclusive setting and nice owner and staff. I will definitely be coming back next time I’m in London!”
4 The India – Best of the City, City – Hidden Gem
Another Indian restaurant, this one found on Cannon Street in the City, came in sixth place in the Hidden Gem category. The restaurant has two other locations, in Shoreditch and near Monument.
Described as a “snug and cosy” restaurant with a “beautiful ambience”, several reviewers have described the venue as hidden gem, while one claimed it was “the best Indian restaurant in town”, adding: “Best cosy restaurant in London City. I’m so lucky that this is my local Indian restaurant. I’d say the best, most delicious and quality food and service around. Good prices too.”
5 Andy’s Greek Taverna, Camden – Hidden Gem
Also in the Hidden Gem category in tenth place, Andy’s Greek Taverna is a long running Camden restaurant described as a “charming casual dining spot with all the cheer of the Greek islands”.
One reviewer described the taverna as an “absolute delight”, continuing on to say “it was a culinary journey that transported me straight to the charming streets of Greece, and that the food was “nothing short of exceptional”.
